Modric Could be K.O. and Not Lift the Only Title He's Missing as a Madrid Player
Real Madrid's Croatian captain might be left with a bittersweet feeling this season due to this issue
Luka Modric is already a legend at Real Madrid. This is undisputed, but he might miss out on winning a title that is not yet in his trophy cabinet. We are talking about the Club World Cup.
This could happen due to a contractual 'problem' with the player, as his contract ends in 2025.
Modric might not play in the Club World Cup if he doesn't renew with Real Madrid
Right now, both Luka Modric, Lucas Vázquez, and Jesús Vallejo have contracts ending at the end of this season. If they don't renew, on June 30th, they will no longer be Real Madrid players.
What does this have to do with the Club World Cup? It's very simple. This tournament concludes on July 13th, 2025, a date after that June 30th. So if these players don't renew, they won't be able to play in a hypothetical final of this Club World Cup.
This is obviously a big problem for these players and for Madrid, as if they don't renew, they won't be able to count on them.
Luka Modric might renew for one more season
The Croatian player at Real Madrid has a very defined role this season in Carlo Ancelotti's team. Modric is a regular substitute, but he often comes onto the field as a game-changer or to control the match.
It's true that there was a period when the player seemed not to be satisfied with all this. It's natural: he went from being an undisputed starter to a substitute. But it seems that now Modric is aware of his reality and age and does accept this role.
If Real Madrid sees it fit, it would be great news for Modric to renew his contract for one more season. The truth is, it's a top-level to have a player like Modric on the bench.
Ancelotti would be delighted to have Luka for one more season
If Carlo Ancelotti remains the coach of Real Madrid next season, he would surely like to have Modric. Carlo has always shown that the Croatian is a favorite of his.
Not long ago, he said this about the player:
"Modrić? He's a gift to football and especially to those who can enjoy him up close. The fans, the players, the coach... For me, he's a great gift."
