Monchi Reveals the Real Madrid Player He Would Transfer for Aston Villa: 'I Like Him'
The sporting director of the English team has mentioned several names in his most recent interview
One of the most notable executives in Spanish soccer is Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo. Better known as "Monchi", this former player spent many years as Sevilla's sporting director. His experience in the elite soccer of our country earned him the interest of Aston Villa, where he has found an excellent working environment alongside an 'old acquaintance'.
Meeting Unai Emery, former Sevilla coach, in the noble area of Villa Park has forged a duo that has changed the fate of the Villans. Both inside and outside the Premier League, since Aston is one of the most pleasant surprises of the current edition of the Champions League.
In his latest interview, "Monchi" has revealed several names he'd like to transfer as Aston Villa's sporting director. Most of them are impossible, especially the one that points directly to Santiago Bernabéu changing room. When asked about a hypothetical contract for the midfield, the Spanish executive points to a box-to-box midfielder.
The possibility of transfering an all-around midfielder from Real Madrid leaves a very clear name: Fede Valverde. But he wouldn't be the player 'Monchi' would want: the Spanish sporting director wants Jude Bellingham, a "profile" that "I like a lot". Besides mentioning the '5' Meringue, he leaves on El Larguero of Cadena SER the reasons why he would pursue that transfer.
He has it very clear
The former Sevilla sporting director acknowledges that "the strong, physical all-around player, not lacking in quality, with goals and arrival, fills me a lot". These same capabilities are what Jude Bellingham has exhibited since he arrived in Santiago Bernabéu locker room in the summer of 2023. Carlo Ancelotti, since then, hasn't hesitated to make him one of the key pieces of his gala starting eleven.
Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo highlights other names in European football's elite like Lamine Yamal or Erling Haaland. But he insists on Jude Bellingham, defining him as "the most complete player in all these areas among these high-level players".
"Monchi's" opinion is widely shared by several teams in European football's elite. So much so that Madrid wasn't the only one interested in acquiring his services when it seemed he was leaving Borussia Dortmund a year and a half ago.
Manchester City and Liverpool were the two great Madridist rivals for the signing of a player who is already marking an era in the elite. At Madrid, they are clear about everything the 'pride of Birmingham' brings in every sense and they aren't willing to give it up so easily. That's why they prepare a renewal offer to adjust his salary and status within the squad to the competitive and sporting reality he's currently experiencing.
