Nacho Peña reveals why Modric hasn't renewed with Real Madrid: 'It wasn't easy'
Nacho Peña has revealed the reasons for Real Madrid deciding not to renew Luka Modric
The time for farewells has come for Real Madrid, as this Saturday Luka Modric and Carlo Ancelotti will say goodbye to Bernabéu.
However, the Croatian's departure has been the most unexpected, as days ago his continuity for another year was taken for granted.
"Real Madrid C. F. and our captain Luka Modrić have agreed to end an unforgettable chapter as a player of our club at the conclusion of the Club World Cup that our team will play starting June 18 in the United States. Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and all its affection to someone who is already one of the greatest legends of our club and world soccer," expressed the Madrid entity in a statement.

This announcement, as expected, has filled Madridists with much sadness, but also with many uncertainties.
Many Real Madrid fans expected Luka Modric's continuity, which is why Nacho Peña has tried to explain what happened.
"Modrić, on one hand, his role in the first part of the season was not handled well, very poorly. In the second part, perhaps he understood it a little better, but the first part, let's say, was not easy. This year no, huh? This year I tell you that the first part, as far as I know, has not been easy," assured the journalist on El Partidazo de COPE.
Xabi Alonso's plans
This farewell from the Balkan makes Xabi Alonso clear about the need to sign another player in the midfield.
"Xabi Alonso wants a midfielder. Another thing is whether they can bring him one. For that, you have to sell an important footballer. The idea, if someone doesn't come, is to move Bellingham back to a slightly more original position," assured Nacho Peña.

The problem with this idea is that the Englishman is strongly considering the possibility of undergoing surgery after the Club World Cup.
Bellingham wants to correct his problem in the left shoulder, so he would be practically out for 3 months.
The absence of the Briton would clearly condition Xabi Alonso's game plan, so going to the market would be a necessity.
