Neither Grimaldo nor Stiller: the player is still anxiously waiting for the agreement with Madrid

His signing with Real Madrid is getting closer. The footballer is waiting for everything to be finalized

Names keep emerging as possible candidates to sign for Real Madrid in recent days. Grimaldo as a left-back is one of the alternatives that seem to be more appealing. Angelo Stiller would be the midfielder they've already chosen to take over from Toni Kroos.

However, the one who is still anxiously waiting for the agreement with Real Madrid is Álvaro Carreras. The young left-back is very eager to return to the white team after his time in the youth academy. He is closely following how negotiations between clubs are progressing.

With Carreras, Real Madrid would already have practically all the terms of his contract settled. The only thing left would be the negotiation between the Merengue club and Benfica, which is what's becoming complicated. Right now, there is no agreement on the transfer fee at which everything will be finalized.

Real Madrid is resisting paying the €50 million ($54.4 million) of his release clause all at once as Benfica wants. They've tried to lower that price and supplement it with other long-term bonuses. The Portuguese aren't giving in and keep insisting that they'll have to reach the set amount.

The club world cup could end up being decisive

Real Madrid trust that sooner or later they'll be able to finalize the arrival of Álvaro Carreras for the left-back position. Xabi Alonso goes further and his intention is for him to be available for the Club World Cup. However, right now they can't confirm his presence at that event.

Among other things because Benfica are also qualified for the tournament this summer. So they don't want to lose Carreras and are looking for him to remain their player in the United States. That's why they still haven't lowered their financial demands to close his signing.

That could complicate Xabi Alonso's idea of having two left-backs during the World Cup. With Mendy and Camavinga injured, the only option he has is Fran García. That's hoping the former Rayo player doesn't have any physical problems at this stage of the season.
