Not PSG, not Real Madrid: Guardiola spends a crazy amount of money for the Club World Cup
After a disappointing season, Manchester City has once again brought out the checkbook
Manchester City is reactivating their transfer plan with their wallet ready ahead of the Club World Cup. After the season ended, Pep Guardiola stated, "There's no doubt new players will arrive, especially in areas that need reinforcements".
Days later, the 'cityzen' president confirmed in statements to the club's official media that City would bring in more reinforcements. "In January, four new signings already arrived, which gives an idea of what's expected this summer. We'll keep working with a clear goal: to have a renewed squad ready for the Club World Cup", he explained.
Manchester City reinforces for the Club World Cup
Pep Guardiola will have four key reinforcements in the United States, both in sporting and financial terms. Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and, as a last-minute surprise, goalkeeper Bettinelli. These signings, coming from the Netherlands, Algeria, and France, aged 26, 24, and 21, will cost approximately €150 million.

At Etihad Stadium, they ruled out the option of Florian Wirtz, whose signing would have meant a similar expense to that of these three players combined. This way, the German player, who also attracted interest from Real Madrid, will sign for Liverpool.
"When I look at last summer, I think we should've been more aggressive in some of the changes we needed to make. We didn't do it and it ended up costing us the season", commented the Manchester City president.
It's worth remembering that the English side already spent about €200 million in the winter. Before the Champions League tie against Real Madrid, Manchester City signed Marmoush, Khusanov, Nico González, and Vitor Reis. However, Carlo Ancelotti's pupils prevailed after a second leg in which Kylian Mbappé scored three goals at Bernabéu.
Tijjani Reijnders was also linked to Real Madrid
The 'cityzens' reached an agreement with AC Milan for the transfer of Tijjani Reijnders. The midfielder signed for €55 million fixed, plus €15 million in variables. He has been involved in about 20 goals this season with the rossoneri and will be a key piece for the team.

The name Tijjani Reijnders was linked to a move to Real Madrid, but the white team didn't end up betting on him. This way, Manchester City, who didn't hesitate, agreed to his signing and he'll make his debut in the Club World Cup.
