Official: Obrador to Benfica and Álvaro Carreras travels to Madrid imminently
Real Madrid confirmed last night the departure of the left-back from the youth academy to secure the services of Carreras
Double move in the market involving Real Madrid and Benfica. It's now official: Rafa Obrador is heading to Lisbon, while Álvaro Carreras will pack his bags for the Spanish capital.
Two linked operations, one departure and one arrival. Both are now practically confirmed.
Real Madrid announced this Friday the transfer of Rafa Obrador to Benfica. The Mallorcan full-back, who has been at Valdebebas since 2020, will play in the Portuguese league for five million euros. He is Benfica's chosen replacement for Carreras.
The agreement between clubs makes the most important thing for the white club's roadmap easier: the permanent signing of Álvaro Carreras. The tension between Madrid and Benfica had brought everything to a halt. With Obrador's sale as a prior gesture, the path has been completely cleared.
Carreras, with green light to travel to Madrid
Fabrizio Romano was the one who broke the day's big news: "EXCLUSIVE: Álvaro Carreras can be considered a new Real Madrid player. He's traveling to Madrid today! Medical reservation approved. Manchester United won't exercise its buy-back option. Full agreement: 50 million in installments. Here we go! Confirmed."
With that message, the Italian journalist confirmed what was already an open secret: Carreras will be a Real Madrid player. The only thing left was for Benfica to give the green light for the trip, which has now happened. The player is free to land in Madrid and undergo a medical examination.
Carreras, who was registered by Benfica for the Club World Cup, forced his departure and only wanted to play for Madrid. After weeks of waiting, his wish is about to come true.

Ten million in one hour for Madrid
Real Madrid will receive ten million for Obrador and Víctor Muñoz (the latter transferred to Osasuna). It's a key financial boost to cover the cost of signing Carreras.
Official statement from the club about Obrador:
"Real Madrid C. F. and Sport Lisboa e Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of our player Rafel Obrador", the club reported.
Obrador joined Madrid at 16 years old. He went through the Juvenil, Castilla, and last season played on loan at Deportivo. As of today, he has a new destination: Lisbon.
Meanwhile, Valdebebas is preparing to welcome its new left-back. Carreras is already on his way.
