It bets on him, but his continuity is not guaranteed after the World Cup

Xabi Alonso wanted to treat the Club World Cup as a preseason with official matches. It's true that there's a title at stake, but he had just arrived and needed to try things out. He also wanted to check firsthand the level of some players on the field.

One of them is Gonzalo, who's responding perfectly with goals and a lot of hard work. But also Fran García, who seemed to have the "for sale" sign hanging around his neck. However, Xabi trusted him and he's making the most of the opportunity he's getting.

With Mendy injured and unable to sign Álvaro Carreras, Fran García was going to be an undisputed starter.  He's "flying" in the Club World Cup, performing at a high level and even being the MVP against Borussia Dortmund. However, that hasn't completely changed his future at Real Madrid.

In fact, his good form wouldn't have changed the decision to sign Álvaro Carreras according to Marca. They also indicate that nothing is finalized regarding Fran and his possible departure. It'll be a topic to discuss after the Club World Cup with all options on the table.

Fran García is Xabi's favorite, who asks for his continuity

Xabi has always been clear that Fran García's continuity was something he was going to ask for. He believes that he fits his system much better than Mendy and that's why he wanted to keep him. Moreover, the level he's showing in the Club World Cup gives the Basque coach more arguments for his request.

It seemed that with Mendy not wanting to leave and having renewed last summer, things were going against the former Rayo player. However, it's important to keep in mind that he's currently injured and that could be a factor. In fact, his future will also be another topic that they'll have to consider.

As we've mentioned, signing Álvaro Carreras is still on the table. They're willing to pay his release clause, just as they committed to him weeks ago. But it's a move they'll finalize once the Club World Cup is over.
