Osasuna's captain stands up for Real Madrid and calls Tebas a 'Brainless person'

Osasuna's goalkeeper, Sergio Herrera, has shown his support for Real Madrid due to the lack of rest before their league debut

Sergio Herrera, Osasuna's goalkeeper and one of the key figures in the rojillo locker room, hasn't held back. In an interview on El Larguero, the goalkeeper has come out in defense of Real Madrid after the decision by the Single Competition Judge not to postpone the match on August 19. He has done so forcefully.

"Did Madrid ask to postpone the match? We understood it perfectly. The logical thing was to say yes. Anyone with a brain knows they don't have enough time to be at one hundred percent (100%)", Herrera stated.

He also took a direct jab at Javier Tebas: "The problem is not everyone has one. Some act smart and end up looking brainless".

The message hasn't gone unnoticed. Amid the controversy over the refusal to postpone the league debut of the blancos, Herrera has been the first to speak out publicly from a rival team.

Real Madrid will return from its vacation on August 4 and will have only 2 weeks (15 days) to prepare for the match. Even so, LaLiga has kept inflexible.

"We were in favor of helping, but Tebas is in charge"

The Navarrese goalkeeper made it clear that both the club and Osasuna's players were in favor of the postponement: "We supported Real Madrid's decision. There was nothing wrong with lending a hand. They're fellow professionals and they're coming from playing an official competition like the Club World Cup. This isn't a friendly. It's a tournament that gives LaLiga visibility and benefits all of us", he explained.

Herrera regretted that, despite the informal consensus among the clubs, LaLiga imposed its criteria: "There are always some more favored than others. But when decisions are made without dialogue, the one who ends up harmed is soccer", he added.

A gesture of camaraderie that wasn't heard

Sergio Herrera also wanted to highlight the human side behind this situation: "Setting aside names and jerseys, I think about the fellow professional. If we were in that situation, we'd like others to understand. It's not about privileges, but about common sense", he said.

He also acknowledged that Osasuna doesn't benefit either: "We play the next match against Valencia with less rest. The schedule doesn't help any of us. But, well, since it's being played, we'll go out and compete as always".

The goalkeeper finished with a reflection that has strongly resonated among fans: "In this sport, common sense should prevail. But if the one in charge doesn't have it, this is what happens". Sergio Herrera has spoken clearly and, in doing so, has exposed Tebas.
