Paco González rebuts Manolo Lama with the national team in the background: 'Neither Zidane nor Ancelotti'

Both journalists talk about the coaches and surprise with their recollection of Zidane and Ancelotti

Spain's 5-4 victory over France in the Nations League is making headlines. The qualification for the final has been seen by many as a show of La Roja's power. One step away from a new title, Manolo Lama wanted to praise Luis de la Fuente.

"The one who was supposed to last three months, the one who was just passing through" the journalist began, referring to the coach. He insisted that "you forget that he lost in Scotland and everyone turned on him." This was a staunch defense of Luis de la Fuente that had a striking continuation.

It was Paco González who then spoke, believing that the criticism of De la Fuente has a source. He believes they've been much harsher with him "because of his applause for Rubiales". These occurred during the press conference after the women's World Cup scandal, when he said he wouldn't resign.

Support that has weighed on De la Fuente, since the National Court convicted Rubiales of sexual assault. That's why Paco González sees the criticism as revenge. He brings Real Madrid into the discussion by stating that "if you lose against Scotland, they'll go after you whether you're De la Fuente, Zidane, or Ancelotti."

Manolo Lama separates De la Fuente's work as coach from his personality

Speaking well of De la Fuente after qualifying for another final seems very easy. But Manolo Lama has done it, trying to respond to Paco González regarding his comment about Rubiales. He believes that people need to separate his work leading the team from his attitude.

"After three years of winning everything, there are still people who question him," Lama continued. "Luis Enrique seems like a very good coach to me, but I can't stand him," he offered as an example. All of this was to now defend the role he's playing as coach.

He also issued a warning about what could happen the day there's a major debacle. "We'll see the first day we fall in a competition, what I'll hear people say about Luis de la Fuente," he concluded. It seems they have the list ready to settle scores.
