Paco González Reveals Why He Wouldn't Sign Xabi Alonso for the Club World Cup
The journalist believes that putting the Donostian with a week of work could be counterproductive and would be 'burning him out.'
Carlo Ancelotti recently appeared at a press conference after Real Madrid's elimination from the Champions League. The Italian avoided talking about his future. He reminded that he has a contract until 2026, but insisted that his continuity will be decided when the season ends.
“There is no problem with the club. We are united, fighting for the remaining titles”, stated the coach in Valdebebas. He also denied any friction with Florentino Pérez. In fact, he assured that in tough times he receives more support from the president than when they win.
The situation has caused all kinds of opinions. One of them has come from Paco González, director of the program "Tiempo de Juego". The journalist assessed the press conference and made his stance clear about the future of the white bench.
Ancelotti's "Wildcard"
For González, Ancelotti is playing with the "end of season" wildcard. He believes that the coach will answer all doubts —including those about Brazil or the Club World Cup— with that phrase.

However, the communicator goes further. He considers that this "final date" will not be in July after the Club World Cup, but at the end of May, when LaLiga ends.
“I believe that when Ancelotti talks about the end of the season, he refers to May 24. Not July 13”, he assured.
Xabi Alonso to the Club World Cup?
With Xabi Alonso strongly rumored as the next Real Madrid coach, Paco González launched an interesting reflection. If the club decides to sign the Bayer Leverkusen coach, they wouldn't put him in charge of the Club World Cup.
“If the team gives a bad image in the remaining matches, something of renewed excitement must be brought to the United States”, he commented. But he also warned of the risk: “You can't burn Xabi with just one week of work”.

Therefore, he suggests a different solution: a bridge coach. Someone who takes charge of the team only for that tournament and doesn't condition the start of the 2025-26 project.
Ancelotti's future will not be defined until after the Cup and LaLiga. If Madrid wins one or both titles, he could continue. If not, the replacement will be inevitable. But according to Paco González, Xabi Alonso shouldn't start in June. “Too soon for a figure that excites”, he concluded.
