Pochettino dreams of Xabi Alonso's dismissal, his confession: 'It's never too late…'
The Argentine coach reveals his intentions to return to club soccer
The interview with Mauricio Pochettino has sparked much discussion even before its release. The comments the Argentine coach made about Kylian Mbappé, regarding his attempts to head toward Santiago Bernabéu locker room, have gone viral quickly. However, the French player was not the only one excited by that idea.
Pochettino himself proved this with a brief set phrase regarding the idea of coaching Real Madrid. Although Xabi Alonso is now firmly established and secured on the Madrid bench, the former PSG or Chelsea coach has no doubt: he will be ready if he gets the call.

"It's never too late if the outcome is good", confesses the current United States national team coach. After some inconsistency during his last few years in club soccer, the North American team decided to hire him to try to improve their competitive performance. So far, they haven't achieved great results.
Although Mauricio Pochettino is still clearly interested in coaching Real Madrid, it seems very difficult for the executives led by Florentino Pérez to get in touch with him. After all, Xabi Alonso is delivering excellent results and has captivated both the fans and the club's leadership.
In the spotlight
This interest from Pochettino in the Madrid bench goes back a long way. In fact, his name was one of the most prominent to replace Zinédine Zidane in the summer of 2018, when the French coach decided to leave the team. After some debate, Julen Lopetegui was the one who got the job.
However, not for long: poor results led to the Basque coach's departure shortly before the Christmas break, putting Santiago Solari in charge of the Madrid team. The then assistant coach didn't last long at the helm of the Merengue team either: in March 2019, Zidane returned in grand fashion.

The passage of time, as well as the return of Carlo Ancelotti to the Madrid sports discipline, have erodedPochettino's chances of landing one of his most desired jobs. Especially now that he is coaching one of the emerging national teams whose "explosion" in the world soccer elite has yet to materialize.
Be that as it may, Mauricio Pochettino aspires to a position that Xabi Alonso now holds with confidence and strict discipline. The coach is getting results, despite having only managed three matchdays in the current league campaign. No change is being considered right now in the Valdebebas offices.
