Possible Real Madrid line-up for this afternoon's match

Madrid says 'goodbye' to La Liga in a special match where Ancelotti and Modric bid farewell to Bernabéu

Real Madrid face Real Sociedad this afternoon (4:15 p.m.) to put an end to La Liga in a match that, despite not being at stake, will be very emotional for the club and the fans, as they bid farewell to Carlo Ancelotti and Luka Modric. Neither the coach nor the midfielder will remain linked to Madrid next season.

With a team that has more than secured second place in the domestic championship standings, which Barça took last week by beating Espanyol in Cornellà (0-2), Madrid seek to say goodbye in a dignified manner to a league in which too many things have happened and which was open almost until the end. Both Ancelotti and Modric well deserve it.

Precisely, the Italian will bet on Modric in his last line-up as Madrid's manager.  The captain, who will turn 40 next September, is going to end a brilliant 13-year period in which, besides winning six European Cups, he was able to win a Ballon d'Or in the era of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.

Modric will be accompanied in the midfield by Aurélien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde, and it is assumed that Arda Güler will also start from the right wing, although the Turk could practically play as a third forward, alongside Vinicius Junior, who returns after his ankle sprain, and Kylian Mbappé. Rodrygo and Endrick were not included in the squad.

In defense, Lucas Vázquez -will also play his last match at Bernabéu, even though it hasn't been announced; it will be his 400th match with the team- and Fran García will be the right and left backs, respectively. Raúl Asencio and Jacobo Ramón will be the center-backs, although Jesús Vallejo could have preference over the latter. Thibaut Courtois will be the goalkeeper.

"It's inevitable to think that these are special days. It's my last match and always when a career ends there's a lot of emotion, but I'm not sad, not at all.  A very important stage ends. I've tried to do everything possible for this club and we've achieved it," Ancelotti declared this Friday in his last press conference from Valdebebas.

It should be remembered that, besides Rodrygo and Endrick -he has recently suffered a right leg hamstring tendon injury and will be out for two months-, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militao, David Alaba, Antonio Rüdiger, Ferland Mendy, and Eduardo Camavinga complete Madrid's infirmary. Jude Bellingham will not be able to play, as he is suspended.
