PSG on the Brink of Disaster After Al-Khelaïfi's Indictment, Global Scandal

The latest news published in France focuses on the president of the Parisian team

One of the most notable advances in the European soccer elite is in France. This time it's not about Real Madrid signings, but it's related to one of the club's long-standing 'rivals': PSG. The complex relationship that both entities have maintained, aggravated and worsened due to the successive 'Mbappé cases', has always drawn attention.

Special interest has been sparked by one of the individuals involved in those sagas that occurred every summer, uninterrupted, for seven years. The president of the rouge et blue club, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, would now have greater concerns than the sports management of the French capital club. The information published by RMC Sport reveals his new status as a suspect in the 'Lagardère case'.

This judicial investigation in France aims to clarify all the movements that occurred around the change of ownership of the Lagardère conglomerate. This group of industrial and media companies in the neighboring country, one of the most notable and important, has caused much controversy for several years precisely because of this process. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi would have been part of it as one of those who "helped the former owner of Lagardère obtain the favorable vote of Qatar Holding", reports the newspaper El País.

Qatar Holding is the subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority, the state investment fund of Qatar that finances a wide range of companies like PSG, which he presides over. The advances in the investigation of the 'Lagardère case' have led to Al-Khelaïfi being listed as a suspect for alleged complicity in vote buying and alleged violation of voting freedom. The investigating judges of this case would also point to the PSG president for "his alleged complicity in a case of abuse of power to the detriment of Lagardère".

Maximum Alert

In light of this information, which has caused a total scandal in France, the journalists of RMC Sport have issued a clear warning: Qatar could completely leave the neighboring country. The Monte Carlo broadcaster warns that QIA has already threatened to withdraw all its investments in France. This decision would strip PSG of the millions it receives from the Asian monarchy, but it would also fully affect other important businesses like the television conglomerate Bein Sports.

PSG's situation is critical. In addition to Kylian Mbappé's departure, orchestrated during the final stretch of the last season and executed during the summer of 2024, there are the irregular results in the Champions League. The European dream remains an unattainable goal for a Nasser Al-Khelaïfi who arrived in Paris in 2012 with Qatar.

The recruitment of one of the best offensive trios of its time, Neymar-Messi-Mbappé, did not make victory possible in the top continental competition... and marked the enormous distance of the French team from Real Madrid: the round of 16 elimination in the 21/22 season is still remembered at the Parc des Princes.

Qatar's position is very clear after the significant judicial setback that Nasser Al-Khelaïfi received last Thursday. Only future investigations conducted within the framework of the 'Lagardère case' will clarify what role the PSG president played in a process that has angered the Qatari Royal Family.
