The "problem" for Xabi Alonso is that Florentino Pérez and José Ángel Sánchez are looking to the future.

One of the main objectives in recent times for Real Madrid has been to strengthen the defense, especially because it has been a position heavily affected by injuries, and also because Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba's contracts with the Madrid club end in June 2026.

For now, the club has managed to bring in Huijsen, but this doesn't seem to be enough, so they're still looking at the Premier League.

This is something that Ramón Álvarez de Mon has confirmed, who has said that the next signing for the defense will very likely be French.

"The two center backs who were at the top of the list for the future were Konaté and Saliba, although the difference is that the latter's contract ends in 2027 and the former will be a free agent next year," the journalist said on Rubén Martín's Twitch channel

Real Madrid's idea is to sign the Liverpool center back, since it would allow them to repeat the Trent Alexander-Arnold formula.

This will depend on whether Ibrahima Konaté stays firm in the coming months, especially because Liverpool will do everything possible to renew his contract.

If they manage to sign him, Real Madrid will secure a solid defense for the coming years, although they're also waiting to see what kind of performance Militao can deliver.
