A Real Madrid delegation travels to London to negotiate, plan B for Konaté

A delegation from Real Madrid has traveled to London to negotiate with Arsenal for Saliba's signing in case Konaté's deal falls through

Real Madrid has sent several representatives to London with a clear objective: to negotiate with Arsenal for William Saliba. The French center-back is the alternative plan if they can't secure the arrival of Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool.

The club's sporting management has been activated after the defensive doubts the team showed in the Club World Cup semifinals against PSG. The defeat to the Parisians made it clear that the team needs more solidity at the back.

Konaté remains the top priority. The Frenchman has a contract with Liverpool until 2026, but he hasn't renewed yet.

Although the "reds" have done everything possible to tie him down, the player hasn't made a final decision. His contractual situation opens the door to a possible departure this summer, with a more affordable cost.

William Saliba enters the scene

Given the uncertainty with Konaté, Real Madrid has renewed its interest in Saliba. The Arsenal player, 23 years old, has a contract until 2027. However, his performance has caught the attention of the club, especially after his outstanding match at Santiago Bernabéu in April.

The Merengue side values his profile: fast, forceful, and good on the ball. Saliba fits the future vision Xabi Alonso has for his defense. That's why a club delegation has already started talks with the footballer's camp and with Arsenal, although the "gunners" don't want to sell.

Two signings in two summers

The operation isn't limited to an immediate signing. According to sources close to the club, Real Madrid doesn't rule out bringing in both Konaté and Saliba in the next two transfer windows. The defensive renewal is already underway.

Veteran players such as Alaba, Carvajal, and Rüdiger could leave in the coming years. In addition, Militao raises some doubts after his recovery.

The defense is now a priority and London has become the epicenter of Madrid's moves. If Konaté doesn't arrive, they'll try with Saliba. The objective is clear: to strengthen the backline with young talent and future guarantees.
