Real Madrid snubs Newcastle, Florentino has said 'No' to the offer

The English team explored the possibility of acquiring Lunin on loan for one season in exchange for €3 million

Andriy Lunin will remain at Real Madrid. At least that's the club's and Florentino Pérez's plan, as he has rejected a formal offer from Newcastle United for the Ukrainian goalkeeper. The offer, according to CaughtOffside, was clear: a one-season loan in exchange for €3 million ($3 million).

The English side, needing to strengthen its goal, considered Lunin a reliable option. But the response from the Madrid club was firm: he's not on the market.

At Valdebebas, they aren't considering his departure, neither as a transfer nor a loan. Xabi Alonso counts on him and considers him an important piece in the squad. His growth over the past season has convinced the coaching staff, and they don't want to break up the tandem with Courtois.

Florentino has also been clear: the door is closed. The club doesn't see any sporting or financial benefit in letting go of the Ukrainian. His role as the second goalkeeper is well defined and his performance when he has had to play has been more than remarkable.

Ramsdale, the plan B

After Madrid's refusal, Newcastle moved quickly and completed the signing of Aaron Ramsdale, Arsenal's goalkeeper, who will arrive to compete for the starting spot. The English side didn't want to waste time given the lack of options in the market.

Even so, the interest in Lunin has been noted. From Manchester, United are also closely monitoring the situation. The Red Devils are scanning the market for a reliable goalkeeper, and the Ukrainian's name is on their list.

Lunin's future, in Madrid's hands

For now, Lunin continues as usual and will join Real Madrid's preseason. He hasn't asked to leave nor shown any discomfort with his situation; quite the opposite. He's focused and ready to compete, as he already showed last season when Courtois was sidelined.

At 26 years old, he's at a key point in his career. He has a contract, the club's trust, and a clear role. If any club wants to sign him, they'll have to do much more than offer €3 million ($3 million).

For now, Florentino has been firm: Lunin is untouchable.
