Real Madrid will listen to offers for Asensio, Xabi Alonso gives the green light to the sale

Real Madrid will listen to offers for Asensio, Xabi Alonso gives the OK to the sale of the center back

One of last season's biggest surprises for Real Madrid was the emergence of Raúl Asencio. With several absences in the backline, the youth academy player managed to earn a starting spot to partner Antonio Rüdiger. However, as we know at Defensa Central, Asencio isn't untransferable and could leave the team if a good offer arrives.

Xabi Alonso simply isn't convinced by the performance of a player who made many mistakes at the World Cup. The penalty against Al Hilal, the sending off against Pachuca, and the error against PSG are still weighing on the coach. Additionally, with Eder Militao's return, Asencio has been relegated within Real Madrid's backline.

For now, the club hasn't received any offers for Asencio's services. Still, with time remaining before the end of the transfer window, this could change quickly. Asencio, who was once one of the team's best players, now has the door open to leave.

A radical change with Asencio

Injuries were a recurring problem for Real Madrid throughout last season. The backline, above all, was the most affected position, with almost no players available or in good physical condition. This led Carlo Ancelotti to make the decision to draft Raúl Asencio, a center-back who has been part of the club's youth academy since 2017.

While his performance was acceptable, everything changed after Ancelotti's departure and Xabi's arrival. Under the Basque coach's orders, Asencio's prominence has diminished. This is partly due to the arrival of Dean Huijsen, who is expected to become the leader of the backline.

With a value of €40 million (about $43.6 million) according to Transfermarkt, selling Asencio wouldn't be a bad move. Real Madrid is currently looking to strengthen the backline by signing another center-back.  Asencio's departure would help both to have money and to make room within the squad.

A very uncertain future

While, at one point, several teams showed interest in Asencio, no one has submitted an offer for him. Real Madrid trusts this will change as the market progresses. At 22 years old, Asencio remains a center-back with a lot of potential for the future.
