Madrid's Response to Atlético After the Threat to 'Challenge': 'They Must Do It...'

From the White Club, they respond to the protests of the Colchoneros after their elimination

At Atlético de Madrid, they still haven't accepted that they failed once again this season in Europe. They weren't able to eliminate Real Madrid in the Champions League, something they've never done. That's why they're looking for excuses, trying to gloss over an elimination that has been very painful.

They arrived as favorites, due to the first phase of both teams and the impressions they gave. But at no point in the tie were they ahead, and the outcome was unexpected. At the Metropolitano, scoring in the first 30 seconds, and they ended up losing on penalties.

That's why they're clinging to the fact that Julián Álvarez's goal was disallowed for having touched the ball twice in his shot. Despite UEFA issuing a statement and a video explaining why that decision was made. They're not satisfied and continue to complain in a rather regrettable manner.

They're clinging to the fact that the IFAB rule regarding penalties also states that the ball must "clearly move." Now they even threaten to 'challenge' the match, something to which Real Madrid has replied. "They must do it to downplay the elimination," they assure, as they are clear that it is a smokescreen.

The Refereeing Help Atlético de Madrid Are Trying to Hide

At Atlético de Madrid, they are outraged because the rule was applied to disallow Julián Álvarez's penalty. However, they say nothing about the rest of the controversial plays in which they were clearly favored. The result could have been different with other decisions.

Simeone Cutting Vinícius's Cross with His Hand | Real Madrid Confidencial

First, there was the cross from Vinícius that Simeone blocked with his hand, cutting off the play, but it wasn't even reviewed. The hand is not in a natural position as it is extended backward, occupying space. They also don't seem to say anything about Correa's stomp inside the area that went unnoticed by many.

In the penalty that was called on Lenglet, he should have seen the red card according to the rule. He disregards the ball and has no intention of playing it, as he blatantly goes to take down Mbappé. But the French center-back got away with it, and Atlético could continue with 11 players.
