Rodrygo's future, set for a verdict: a decision could be made on Thursday

One of the open fronts that Real Madrid has recorded during the last months of 2025 has been led by Rodrygo Goes. The continuity of the "11" verdeamarelo in the first team has drawn a lot of attention due to his fragile position in Santiago Bernabéu locker room. Even with Carlo Ancelotti, given his striking absence from the final stretch of last season's league campaign.

The change of coach is a new opportunity for all Real Madrid footballers. This is also true for Rodrygo, who, however, still isn't showing that he is capable of regaining lost ground during the 24/25 season. Proof of this is the few minutes he played during the Club World Cup, as well as the loss of his starting spot to Xabi Alonso.

The final verdict on the future of the Osasco striker hasn't arrived yet. Despite the interest from several Premier League clubs, in addition to the timid approaches from PSG, no team has made a formal offer to make the transfer happen. Real Madrid's financial demands, about €100 million ($100 million) transfer fee, would be the main obstacle to that operation.

Although there still isn't a clear decision regarding Rodrygo's future, it could be anticipated thanks to another player: Franco Mastantuono. The former River Plate footballer, although he reportedly has already signed for Real Madrid, is expressly forbidden from joining the team until Thursday, August 14. That will be when he turns 18 and the FIFA rules governing his case will no longer apply.

Doubts until the end

Real Madrid reportedly set both his official presentation and his incorporation into training for that same day. Everything indicates that Franco Mastantuono will be presented with his new number at the merengue club: "25". After all, it's the only one left available after all the changes made to Santiago Bernabéu locker room, including signings and departures.

If the Argentine attacking midfielder appears at that event with "25" as his new number, many understand that Rodrygo's future would be secured. The player would keep "11" and would remain under Xabi Alonso's orders for the 25/26 campaign, hoping to regain his place and the prominence he lost.

But if Mastantuono is presented without a number, another reshuffling of the numbers assigned to the first team could occur. Real Madrid has completely stopped its activity in the transfer market, only waiting for a last-minute departure... which could very well be Rodrygo Goes if the Argentine player doesn't have a number at his presentation.

Xabi Alonso warns that he wants to have all the footballers who make up Santiago Bernabéu locker room, but Real Madrid won't keep any player. As long as an acceptable offer arrives for the footballer who is on the way out, in this case Rodrygo Goes, he would have the approval of the club's leadership to leave.
