However, Sergio Canales confessed in "Relevo" that he didn't think about José Mourinho's presence when signing for Real Madrid. "I didn't sign with Madrid thinking about which coach was there or wasn't, to be honest," he commented.

However, despite his signing looking quite promising, Sergio Canales couldn't have the opportunity to succeed in white. "Things happen when they happen and when they have to happen. And obviously, I was very young because to be in a locker room like that, the competition is brutal among teammates," he explained.

Sergio Canales went from being indisputable at Racing de Santander to being just another player at Real Madrid. "Everyone fights for a spot, everyone wants to be the best in the world, I'm not even talking about the team. So, it's logical, right? In the end, it came to me there and gave me a very big learning experience," he exclaimed.

"From that year on, I remember the season ended, and I said: 'Okay, I need a physical trainer, I need a physio, I need a nutritionist... And that's when my mentality changed a bit about what I needed to be an elite professional," concluded Sergio Canales.
