De la Fuente admits if he's planning to keep calling up Huijsen for Spain: 'If he doesn't have...'

The national coach speaks candidly about Xabi Alonso's current protégé

Dean Huijsen's surprising evolution in his first two matches as a Real Madrid player has made him the center of attention. The "24" in white is one of Xabi Alonso's most outstanding protégés: the Tolosa coach, in return, would have made him a key piece in his tactics and formations.

Huijsen's growth under the tactical command of the coach from Tolosa offers enormous potential that doesn't go unnoticed by anyone. Not even by one of the most important coaches in the career of the center-back born in Amsterdam: Luis de la Fuente. The Spanish coach already included the center-back during the international break in March.

It was in those matches against the Netherlands where Real Madrid became fully convinced of the urgent need to secure the football services of the young defensive talent. They finally achieved their goal, but now many have cast doubt on Huijsen's future appearances with the Spanish national team.

Luis de la Fuente himself would have clarified those hesitations in his latest public appearance. The coach of the senior national team, during an interview on Cadena COPE, made it clear that the "24" in white "has the makings of a very good footballer". That means he closely follows his performance at club level, considering his inclusion in future drafts.

Nothing has changed

Everything suggests that, "if he doesn't have physical problems," Dean Huijsen will be one of the regulars in Luis de la Fuente's Spanish national team. The doubts about the player's appearances with Spain now that he has signed for Real Madrid quickly disappear: "we're in a sweet moment for Spanish soccer", the coach concludes.

In this context, Real Madrid is advancing in one of its most striking objectives: regaining lost ground in the Spanish national team. The scouts led by Juni Calafat have focused their attention on talents from our country so they can represent the club in matches with Spain.

That trend had faded over time with the signing of some footballers who arrived from America: Vinícius, Fede Valverde, or Rodrygo Goes are the clearest examples. That's why footballers like Huijsen himself or Raúl Asencio, also drafted during the March break but without playing any minutes, are beginning to gain relevance in sports planning.

In any case, from the Valdebebas offices, they consider that everything is advantageous with the signing of Dean Huijsen. Not only do the discussions about the shortage of defenders decrease, but part of the recently lost prominence in the Spanish national team is also being regained.
