Surprised, Xabi Alonso confirms a signing for Madrid: 'I didn't expect it...'

The coach has spoken about his new player and discusses his future

Real Madrid secured a spot against Juventus thanks to a lone goal from Gonzalo García in the second half. The homegrown Madridist found the net again, and his goals are starting to be decisive. They were against Getafe and Al Hilal, and once again he repeated against the Turin side.

That's why, in the press conference, Xabi Alonso was asked about Gonzalo, the "new signing". At the level he is at, it seems difficult to bench him, even though Mbappé has already recovered. "I didn't expect three goals in four matches" the Basque admitted about his new striker.

He did acknowledge that he expected "that he'd work hard, wear down the center-backs, and be persistent in pressing. All of that already helps a lot, and if he then scores these goals, even better.I trusted him and he's earning this trust" he said after the match ended.

That's why he doesn't hesitate to acknowledge that he is "very happy for him, for the team, and we encourage him to keep it up. He's delivering a very good performance, with goals and everything he brings." He left a message pointing to the future: "He's making the most of the minutes he gets."

Gonzalo may be changing his future and Xabi speaks out

Gonzalo was on trial during the Club World Cup, thinking about his future at Real Madrid. Xabi wanted to test him to see to what extent he could perform in the first team. So far, he's drawing very positive conclusions regarding the Madridist striker.

To such an extent that some sources indicate that he's earning his place in the team. The "9" they were looking for in the market could be Gonzalo, unless he asks to leave. But Xabi has spoken about the homegrown player's future with the white squad.

"Today is about the World Cup, we're not analyzing the squad for next season. There will be time for that" he admitted after the match against Juventus where the striker scored. They don't want to give any hints, but Gonzalo is speaking on the field with strong performances.
