The Barça team is looking for an alternative to Camp Nou and Montjuïc to receive Real Madrid
FC Barcelona is working against the clock to decidewhere the Clásico of gameday 35 of LaLiga against Real Madrid will be played. The date of the game coincides with the final preparations of the new Spotify Camp Nou, so the stadium will not be available.
Options in Spain
Barça's management is evaluating several national alternatives. Among the most notable options is Mestalla, with a capacity for almost 50,000 spectators. However, Valencia plays at home that gameday, complicating its availability.
Another possibility is La Cerámica, with a capacity for 23,500 people. Or Montilivi, which can only accommodate 15,000 fans. Both options are considered insufficient for the volume of Barça supporters in a Clásico.
La Cartuja, with a capacity for 60,000 spectators, is another alternative that could meet the requirements.
International options
The club is also considering playing outside of Spain. Wembley, with 90,000 seats, and Saint Denis, with 80,000, are two of the European stadiums on the list.
The Olympic Stadium in Berlin, with a capacity for 75,000 spectators, and the Vélodrome in Marseille, which can accommodate 67,000 people, are also being considered as viable options.
Besides the Clásico, Barça must consider other key commitments. If the blaugranas reach the semifinals of the Champions League (April 29-30 and May 5-6), they will need a venue with UEFA standards.
The match on matchday 37 against Villarreal is also affected by the closure of the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys.
Imminent decision
Barça's Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday, January 28, to make a decision. According to internal sources, the club is pressuring the construction company Limak to speed up the works at Spotify Camp Nou. However, obtaining the necessary permits could delay the opening of the venue until the next season.
The final choice must be communicated soon. The club needs to coordinate with LaLiga, the RFEF, and local authorities to obtain the pertinent authorizations.
Barça, meanwhile, faces the challenge of finding a stadium that meets the logistical and sporting demands of such an important match.
