The Harsh Words with Which José Luis Sánchez Has Spoken Out Against VAR

The harsh words with which José Luis Sánchez has spoken out against VAR

The match between Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano ended with a resounding victory for the Merengues. Through Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé, the club managed to secure 3 crucial points for their fight for LaLiga. However, as has become customary, this match also featured some controversial refereeing decisions.

On this occasion, the controversy of the match was a penalty that wasn't awarded to Vinícius. Suffering an obvious stomp inside the area, this action wasn't reviewed by VAR.  "They didn't have coverage," were the words with which José Luis Sánchez expressed his frustration.

Remembering that with the penalties awarded to Tchouaméni and Camavinga there was coverage, it's curious that now VAR didn't have it. Without a doubt, this is further proof that Real Madrid did the right thing by submitting their letter against Spanish refereeing.

Another Injustice

For several weeks, Real Madrid has expressed their dissatisfaction with the refereeing.  Requesting a profound change in the way of refereeing and more transparency with VAR, the club was initially ignored. However, this latest injustice has proven them right, as the team now seeks explanations about the situation that happened with Vinícius Júnior.

The replays of the Brazilian's play clearly show how one of the opponents dangerously steps on his left foot. This action, besides being dangerous for Vinícius, should have been reviewed by VAR and awarded as a penalty in favor of Real Madrid.

In light of VAR's inactivity, José Luis Sánchez's fury is just a reflection of the frustration felt by all Madridists. In a competition that prides itself on being highly professional, it's unbelievable that in similar plays, the only one affected is Real Madrid.

The Changes VAR Needs

This match against Rayo Vallecano was yet another demonstration that VAR urgently needs to make changes. Similarly, this situation has given Real Madrid more strength to continue their fight to change refereeing.
