Tottenham puts Florentino in a $40M mess after canceling Rodrygo's signing
The unexpected deal that Florentino Pérez must solve in order not to lose a player to Tottenham Hotspur
During the past few weeks, Tottenham showed interest in signing Rodrygo Goes. This move ended up being canceled and has caused Tottenham to set its sights on another player. According to what we know at Defensa Central, the English club is looking to sign Nico Paz, preparing a multi-million euro offer for the player.
Although Como doesn't have plans to let the Argentine midfielder go, this has become a problem for Real Madrid. The club has the option to match any offer made for the player. This is in order to always be Nico's first option in case he leaves the Italian team.
However, €40 million ($43.6 million) is not such an affordable amount for Real Madrid. Given the signings the club has made, what it needs are player sales. Even though it could interfere in Nico's transfer, the value is the main obstacle here.
Another interference from the Premier League
A Real Madrid youth product from 2016 to 2024, Nico Paz left the club to sign for Como in Serie A. Although he was able to play minutes with the first team, Nico didn't manage to earn a place in the squad. This was the opposite of what happened at Como, with the young Argentine becoming a key pillar for the team.

In 2,695 minutes played (2,695 minutos), Nico Paz managed to score 6 goals and provide 9 assists. These are outstanding numbers for his excellent debut season. Given his great performance, several clubs showed interest in signing the Argentine.
Although none made a concrete offer, this has changed with Tottenham. The English club's interest has grown during the last few days of this transfer window. If Tottenham succeeds, this would leave Real Madrid with no options to bring Nico Paz back.
The decision Real Madrid must make
Since it has buy-back options, Real Madrid could still bring Nico Paz back. Even so, everything depends on Tottenham's offer and, clearly, the young Argentine's decision. In a transfer window that hadn't caused so many problems, Real Madrid will have to face the Premier League once again.
