Transfer almost finalized: Fabrizio Romano announces it'll be official next week

The journalist reveals that this player will join Real Madrid

Fabrizio Romano, a journalist who is an expert in the transfer market, has revealed that Real Madrid and Benfica have already reached an agreement for Álvaro Carreras. The Italian states that the deal is close to being completed and that only a few details remain. Barring a major surprise, Florentino Pérez is going to give the green light to pay €50 million ($50 million), which is his release clause.

Real Madrid's president believes that the price may be somewhat high, just as some sectors of Madridism think. However, one must not forget the need Xabi Alonso's squad has to strengthen the left flank. Fran García is having a great Club World Cup, but Ferland Mendy is neither present nor expected to be.

The Frenchman raised all the alarms with his appearance at Modric and Ancelotti's farewell at Bernabéu. He was on crutches and couldn't even put weight on his leg. Sources at the club believe that he could return starting in October or November.

Likewise, it is expected to be difficult for him to become that player who was a defensive guarantee and quite reliable again. Clearly, he has a market, given that no team is interested in signing a footballer in those physical conditions. As of today, July 8, he is not reliable at all.

For this reason, three footballers for the left back position are not too many. The conditions are what they are and the outlook is devastating, so Fran needs someone in that position to allow for rotation. Proof of this is that he has played every match in the World Cup.

Carreras wants to wear white

If it had been up to Álvaro Carreras, he would have already arrived in the Spanish capital. The Galician is aware that he is close to fulfilling his dream. One must not forget that he was present in the youth categories and was at La Fábrica until the cadet level.

Years later, Real Madrid has set its sights on him and, barring a surprise, he will end up joining Bernabéu. Thus, it is very likely that there will be an official announcement once the Club World Cup ends for the Whites. Hopefully, it will be on Sunday.
