The Real Reason for the 'No' to Miguel Gutiérrez: It's Not About His Quality

Girona's '3' might have been left without a place in Real Madrid's sports planning

The debate over Real Madrid's left-back position for the upcoming seasons has brought up some names that are slowly aligning with a possible addition to Santiago Bernabéu locker room. Besides Theo Hernández, another key figure in this regard has always been Miguel Gutiérrez, a former Real Madrid youth player and currently a Girona player.

Despite the persistence of multiple transfer rumors, the Valdebebas offices have reportedly already made a decision regarding the player from the Catalan team. Because the Real Madrid board, according to information published by José Félix Díaz, is not considering Miguel Gutiérrez as one of the potential candidates to fill the left-back position this summer.

Quite the opposite: they wish the footballer much success and luck in his time at Girona so that he attracts the interest of other elite clubs. Only then could Real Madrid truly benefit from Miguel Gutiérrez: in this case, from a purely economic standpoint. The newspaper Asreinforces the role of Girona's '3' as a "financial asset" for the white club, which retains 50% of his transfer rights.

With that figure secured, Real Madrid would receive exactly half of the transfer fee that Girona could gather for Miguel Gutiérrez during a potential future sale. That's why the Real Madrid executives have repeatedly ignored the requests sent from Montilivi, through which Girona attempted to acquire the full rights to Miguel Gutiérrez.

He's Practically Out

This would be, therefore, the main reason why Real Madrid has excluded Miguel Gutiérrez from the debate over the future left-back of the first team. It's not a matter of quality at all, even despite the debated and debatable season that Girona has had during the current league campaign.

Even with the poor results of the Catalan team, both in LaLiga and the Champions League, the Valdebebas offices understand that Miguel Gutiérrez has enough quality for the European elite. However, he is not the type of player they would aspire to include in Santiago Bernabéu locker room. This idea, combined with the economic possibilities offered by a potential move out of Spain, definitively leaves the former Real Madrid youth player out.

Real Madrid will wait for Girona and Miguel Gutiérrez to regain competitive rhythm. Especially because there are several 'big' clubs from the Old Continent that keep the Catalan team's '3' on their list of potential signings... although the possibility of that transfer has diminished given Girona's records in the current soccer season.

With Miguel Gutiérrez ruled out for economic reasons, Real Madrid continues to search for the ideal player to fill the left-back position in the near future. The continuity of Fran García and Ferland Mendy is not assured, an idea that the executives led by Florentino Pérez reinforce with their decisions regarding potential candidates for a highly scrutinized position.
