Michael Owen's Unexpected Advice to Alexander-Arnold: He Lived the Same Situation

The former Real Madrid and Liverpool player is aware that one can't refuse the offer from the white team, although he regretted it

Trent Alexander-Arnold's Future Remains Uncertain. The Liverpool full-back's contract ends at the end of the season, and there are no signs of renewal. Real Madrid is very interested in signing him as a free agent for the 2025/26 campaign.

In December, the White Club Tested the Waters with an Offer. That move didn't sit well with Michael Owen, who knows well what it means to receive a proposal from Los Blancos.

Owen and His Experience with Real Madrid

Owen left Liverpool in the summer of 2004 to sign for Real Madrid.

He was a key piece for the Reds, having scored 19 goals the previous season. However, the call from Los Blancos was too tempting.

The former striker had grown up in Liverpool's academy and felt a strong attachment to the club. But when Real Madrid came with their offer, he couldn't say no.

Years later, in an interview with Sky Sports, Owen confessed that he actually didn't want to leave.

"I didn't want to leave Liverpool at that time. But I felt that if I didn't take the opportunity to play in Spain, I would regret it," he stated.

Owen's Advice to Alexander-Arnold

Now, the former English footballer sees his story reflected in Alexander-Arnold's situation. The full-back is also a product of Liverpool's youth system and feels a strong bond with the club. But the possibility of playing for Real Madrid is unique.

Owen knows that the decision isn't easy. Leaving the team that saw you grow can be painful. However, the former striker understands that an offer from Madrid doesn't come every day.

"It's hard to turn down Real Madrid when they come knocking at your door," he stated. For now, Alexander-Arnold hasn't made a decision. His contract remains uncertain, and Madrid's interest is real.

The story could repeat itself. Like Owen in 2004, the English full-back could end up wearing white. Only time will tell if he stays at Anfield or embarks on a new adventure at Santiago Bernabéu.
