Unheard of, Gonzalo Miró Blames Real Madrid for Atlético's Downward Spiral: 'What...'

The Atlético Commentator Points to the White Club for the Red-and-White Draw

Atlético de Madrid has lost much of the competitive momentum they had accumulated so far. Diego Pablo Simeone's players have dropped many points in recent matches, with disappointing draws and losses. These results haven't helped keep the red-and-white team in the fight for the LaLiga leadership, from which they are currently separated by almost insurmountable six points.

Gonzalo Miró, analyzing what happened during the current matchday 29 of LaLiga, has made it clear that he notices a very profound change in the Riyadh Air Metropolitano locker room. So much so that he perceives Simeone as "very emotionally affected". The panelist says he perceives what is happening, something that would be "quite in line with the rest of Atlético de Madrid's fans".

"I think the fans, from what I sense, from what I talk to people from Atleti, still haven't recovered from what happened in that match". Gonzalo Miró refers to the return leg of the Champions League round of 16, where Real Madrid eliminated Atlético de Madrid on penalties at the colchoneros' stadium. "It's true that this is still present", confesses the red-and-white panelist.

"I understand that some people move on, but within Atlético de Madrid's fans, it's still present. Does that take away and is it at odds with Atlético de Madrid's poor play and this second half they are having? No, that must be said", clarifies Gonzalo Miró. According to the panelist, the colchonero team "has taken thirteen points from the last thirty".

Remains in Memory

These figures wouldn't allow Diego Pablo Simeone's players to compete for the LaLiga 24/25 leadership. "The matches against Leganés or Getafe," where Atlético de Madrid suffered unexpected defeats, "were before that knockout round, and they were also absolutely dreadful. One thing doesn't negate the other," concludes Gonzalo Miró about Atlético de Madrid's poor competitive moment.

The colchonero team has recently lost the chance to achieve the treble. Besides that striking elimination in the Champions League round of 16, which is having more repercussions than initially expected, there's also the distancing in the fight for LaLiga. The matches mentioned by Gonzalo Miró himself would be truly responsible for this new disappointment in the top domestic competition.

As things stand, Atlético de Madrid only has the Copa del Rey as a great opportunity. Diego Pablo Simeone's players cling to a 'knockout tournament' in which they must face FC Barcelona in the return leg of the semifinals at the Metropolitano stadium. That match will be played next Wednesday, April 2, when the winner of the semifinal between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad will be waiting for an opponent in the final at La Cartuja.

But the elimination in the Champions League round of 16 has been a really hard blow for everyone at Atlético de Madrid. The bad feelings gathered since that match, prior to the March international break, prevail three weeks later at Cerro del Espino and Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
