From untouchable to agreed departure: Real Madrid is working on this player's exit

The surprising center-back who could leave Real Madrid due to interest from a club in Türkiye

For all of Europe, the transfer market has ended, but for Türkiye, surprisingly, there are still a few days left before it closes. This has put one of Real Madrid's center-backs on Besiktas's radar. According to what we know at Defensa Central, the Turkish club is working on signing Raúl Asencio.

The young Real Madrid center-back has undergone a radical change in his role within the team. After being one of last season's revelations, Raúl hasn't played a single minute this campaign. With Xabi's trust placed in other center-backs like Huijsen and Alaba, Asencio has been relegated to the bench.

In light of this, Real Madrid has shown interest in allowing his departure to Besiktas before the end of the Turkish market. Asencio will be able to play the minutes he needs on a team that will give him a more prominent role than at Real Madrid. From the Madrid club's side, they're considering making his departure either a loan or including a buy-back option.

A surprising change

At just 22 years old, Raúl Asencio experienced the most important change of his career last season. The center-back went from being a Castilla player to joining the first team before the end of the first half of the season. Faced with injuries suffered by the back line, Asencio was Ancelotti's solution to keep a solid defense.

Although it was expected that Asencio would only play a handful of matches, the Spaniard ended up securing a starting spot. However, all of this changed after Xabi Alonso arrived as the team's new coach. Asencio went from being one of Real Madrid's most important players to a substitute in just a few weeks.

Although the reason for Xabi's decision is unknown, Asencio's performances may have played a role. During this tournament, the center-back made at least one mistake per match he played. From conceding penalties to being sent off, the World Cup showed several mistakes from a player who now doesn't leave the substitutes' bench.

An interesting destination

Although nothing has been finalized regarding Asencio's future, there are still a few days left to determine his destination. Besiktas is a club that, while not at Real Madrid's level, has shown itself to be very competitive. However, given Real Madrid's demanding schedule, Xabi might need Asencio when he rotates the squad.
