Valverde for Pedri: the player swap Figo proposes to Madrid and Barça

The unexpected change that Luis Figo has revealed he would make between Real Madrid and Barcelona players

Twenty-five years have passed, but Luis Figo's move from Barcelona to Real Madrid hasn't been forgotten. The former Portuguese footballer, according to information from Marca newspaper, has revealed the player swap he would make between both teams.  "Maybe from Barça, Pedri; if it were the other way around, from Real Madrid, it would be Valverde," were his words.

"They're great players, they always perform at a very high level; they're a sure thing, and they're important in their teams," he added. Having experience playing for both clubs, Figo is aware of how controversial both moves would be. Although Figo has shown interest in this swap, it's difficult for it to happen.

As we know at Defensa Central, Real Madrid considers Fede Valverde a non-transferable player. A similar situation occurs with Barcelona, which isn't interested in letting Pedri leave. Although this swap would clearly give people a lot to talk about, the reality is that it's an impossible operation to carry out.

Luis Figo's proposal

After playing five seasons at Barcelona, Luis Figo signed for Real Madrid in 2000. A move that culés still criticize to this day but that was a very wise decision by the Portuguese. During the five seasons he wore white, Figo was key to winning titles such as a Champions League.

Real Madrid legend, this is the status Fede Valverde aims to achieve at the club. Shining at the club since 2018, Valverde is one of its best players and one of its most important leaders. At 27 years old, the Uruguayan has shown on more than one occasion his love and commitment to Real Madrid.

Moreover, Valverde is a much more complete midfielder than Pedri with Barcelona. The Spaniard, just 22 years old, although he has had a decent performance, has always struggled with injuries. In addition, his performance has never been up to the level of a club that already rejected him in the past, when the player was just starting his career.

An impossible swap

No matter how much Luis Figo makes his desire for this operation clear, he's aware of its difficulties. Under no circumstances would Real Madrid allow such an important player as Valverde to leave. The Uruguayan, over the years, has shown himself to be a better midfielder than Pedri in every aspect of his game.
