Why Real Madrid Won't Play the Champions League Game in Brest
The game between the Madrid team and the French team will be played in another stadium
Real Madrid plays this Wednesday the last game of the first phase of the Champions League. They do so against Brest but there is a peculiarity, as they are not playing in their stadium. The French team has had to play in a different venue when they have played at home.
In Ligue 1, this team from Brittany plays their home games at the Francis-Le Blé stadium. Something that hasn't happened in the Champions, where they have had to play in Guingamp. It is located 109 kilometers (67.7 miles) from theirs and belongs to the club En Avant Guingamp of the second division.
The reason for this move is that Francis-Le Blé, their usual stadium, doesn't meet UEFA regulations. The requirements demanded by the organization are not met by their field, and they had to find another. Thus, they do so a hundred kilometers away, as we have mentioned in Guingamp.
That will be the stadium hosting Brest – Real Madrid, which takes place this Wednesday at 9 p.m. The venue has a capacity for 18,000 spectators, but even so, it is still quite small. To such an extent that it will be impossible to accommodate all the press that usually covers the Meringues.
Real Madrid seeks a victory that allows them to dream of a qualification for the round of 16
Real Madrid achieved an important win against Salzburg that allows them to dream of the top 8 spots. It is very complicated, but if they succeed, it would be a great triumph for Los Blancos. They would avoid having to play the 2 play-off matches before the round of 16.
For this, they must achieve 3 points against Brest, and if it is by a wide margin of goals, it will be better. In addition to this, they will have to wait for 8 of the teams ahead of them to slip up. Something that leaves them with a 2.9 percent chance of that happening.
However, it is not impossible, and we already know that with Real Madrid and the Champions, anything can be expected. The resolution will be this Wednesday when the table is finalized. We will already know in what position Los Blancos end up and if they have to resort to the play-off.
