Xabi Alonso has a very special assignment for Courtois, essential for the new Madrid.
The Basque coach wants the Belgian goalkeeper to also be part of the build-up play
Thibaut Courtois is already experiencing firsthand what Xabi Alonso wants to establish at the Valdebebas training complex, where a new era has officially begun for Real Madrid. The goalkeeper was one of the main focuses during the workday at the club's facilities. During the first session, the Basque coach asked him for things that had never been so clear during Carlo Ancelotti's time in charge of the first team.
Real Madrid has started a new project under a coach who is setting a different course for the team from the Spanish capital. The era of managers and a play style that needed a change to adapt to modern soccer has come to an end. Thibaut Courtois is already aware and is working directly with Xabi Alonso, who is beginning to put his stamp on the locker room.

Thibaut Courtois's new role at Real Madrid
The Belgian goalkeeper took part in different drills where Xabi Alonso began to plan his team's build-up play from the back. There won't be long balls, at least not like before, for forwards who are now expected to be supplied with possession from the back.
In this regard, Thibaut Courtois will be vital not only for stopping goals, but above all for starting to build play from the back. It was no secret, and the club's new coach made it clear during his introduction.
"Soccer requires you to be flexible, dynamic, and move pieces. I have some ideas about how to play and I want the team to convey emotion, energy, and to connect with the people. The symbiosis will be essential", said Xabi Alonso on the day of his introduction.
"We have good players to work with and I want to be involved in the day-to-day right away to improve each one's potential and fit the pieces together to make a team. I want the players to be able to play where they're most comfortable and where they can best show their physical, tactical, and mental qualities. The good thing is having good players and the rest is my problem", he added.
