Xabi Alonso rules out a free transfer, Madrid doesn't need it
Decision made by Real Madrid's new coach, he doesn't see a place for him in his project
Xabi Alonso has already led his first Real Madrid training session this Monday with the World Cup in mind. Los Blancos are focused on that tournament, which will take place in a few days. However, they are also making decisions in the market regarding several deals they have in progress.
One of them was the possible signing of Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has a contract with Arsenal until 2026. In the Champions League knockout round where they faced each other, he left a great impression. At 18 years old, he was one of the options they were considering for the left-back position.

However, despite being able to arrive on a free transfer in a year, Xabi Alonso has ruled him out. He believes the possible arrival of Álvaro Carreras means there's no rush to bring in another left-back. Meanwhile, he is also looking to the youth academy to strengthen the squad in the long term.
This means Skelly sees the rumors linking him to Real Madrid starting to fade. For this reason, more and more sources indicate that he is willing to renew with Arsenal. They will begin negotiating a new contract once his move to Los Blancos is ruled out.
Real Madrid's plans for full-backs in the market
Xabi Alonso's arrival at Real Madrid appears to have significant consequences for the club's structure. Above all, he wants to bet on the youth academy and those young players who stand out at La Fábrica. That's why he prefers to slow down possible signings for 2026 to work within the club.

For the left-back position, they trust Yusi, who has already made a very good impression this season. The same goes for Víctor Valdepeñas, whose versatility as a wing-back or center-back is highly valued. These are two names Xabi Alonso has noted to start following very closely.
On the right side, two other names have emerged strongly in recent months. One is Loren Aguado, and the other is Jesús Fortea, with whom they've reached an agreement to renew his contract. This is the bet for the future they're making, which also slows down possible long-term signings under consideration.
