Xabi Alonso speaks out on Vini and his contract renewal, clearer than ever: 'I'm really p...'

The Tolosa manager appeared before the media ahead of the match against Real Mallorca

One of the most important issues for Real Madrid this summer has been the renewal of Vinícius Jr. Doubts about the future of the "7" verdeamarelo have even reached the press conference prior to the Real Madrid-Real Mallorca match: Xabi Alonso has replied directly to this very important issue.

According to the Tolosa coach, the work that the São Gonçalo striker has done so far can be defined positively. "I'm very happy with him", Xabi Alonso confides. In fact, the Basque coach himself wants "him to have a great season" wearing the Real Madrid jersey over the next ten months.

The turbulence caused by the absence of his renewal during the summer of 2025 would not have changed the plans of the merengue coaching staff either. "He'll be a key player", Xabi Alonso states, when asked if Vinícius's role would be changed due to those distances in negotiations with the Madrid leadership.

Nothing could be further from the truth: Carlo Ancelotti's successor on the local merengue bench has arrived in the Spanish capital to impose the law of meritocracy. His answers in press conferences and his decisions in matches, with the changes against Osasuna and Real Oviedo as statements of intent, are proving it.

Saga settled

The controversies surrounding Vinícius don't stop, as this question in the pre-match press conference for Real Madrid-Real Mallorca shows. Doubts about the São Gonçalo striker's ability to keep his place as an undisputed starter are more than reasonable. In fact, Xabi Alonso decided to change his starting line-up for the visit to Carlos Tartiere, leaving Vinícius on the bench.

The sporting issue, as well as all the debates it brings, doesn't influence the situation the South American player is currently experiencing with the Madrid leadership. Xabi Alonso assures, albeit indirectly, that these are watertight compartments with no connection whatsoever.

At least as far as his decision-making at the tactical and technical level is concerned. Aside from that answer about his renewal, a debate from which he seems to distance himself, Xabi Alonso has been very clear regarding the latest racist insults received by the forward. "We hope that wherever we go there'll be a competitive atmosphere, but not unpleasant episodes", he points out.

The Real Madrid coach asks that "if there are racist episodes, the competent authorities intervene. We, to the field", which is the true objective of his management. Xabi Alonso emphasizes once again that Vinícius's renewal doesn't affect the chances he has of "being key" in the tactical plans for the season.
