$14M and he's out of Real Madrid, Florentino's plan to get rid of him

The Real Madrid footballer whose days are numbered due to Florentino Pérez's plan

Once all the major signings have been completed, it's time for Real Madrid to make some departures. Not counting the players whose contracts have ended, the club is looking to receive some income from departures this summer. This has led Florentino Pérez, according to information from the newspaper AS, to seek the sale of Ferland Mendy.

The French left-back, who was important in past seasons, doesn't have a secure future at the club. His constant injuries and inconsistency last season ultimately led to Real Madrid's decision. In order to sell Mendy as soon as possible, the club is willing to do so at a reduced price.

€14 million ($14 million) is a surprising value considering everything Mendy has given Real Madrid in recent years. Even so, according to Defensa Central, the arrival of Álvaro Carreras has greatly influenced the possible departure of Mendy from Real Madrid.

A bitter ending

Arriving at Real Madrid in 2019, Ferland Mendy became the starting left-back under Carlo Ancelotti. While Mendy has never stood out for his offensive qualities, he makes up for it with his great defensive skills. Considered a wall by several of Real Madrid's rivals, Mendy has been essential to several of the team's successes.

However, last season wasn't as positive due to the multiple problems he faced. The 2,245 minutes he played is clear evidence of the absence he had during most of the season.

Although his contract runs until 2028, Real Madrid has remained firm in its decision to sell him this summer. Even with the low price they're asking for the Frenchman, the income caused by his departure will still be important, in addition to the gap he will leave in the squad.

Choosing a destination

Being 30 years old and prone to injuries, it's understandable the value Real Madrid has given Mendy. This is the only way the club can ensure the interest of several clubs in signing a Mendy who is no longer in Real Madrid's plans.
