Alexander-Arnold Will Arrive at Madrid for Free, However, Negotiations with Liverpool Will be Necessary
The English defender will arrive at Chamartín to strengthen the team's right wing position
Real Madrid has Trent Alexander-Arnold's transfer well on track. The English has already given the green light to his move to Chamartín for next summer and also informed Liverpool of his decision not to continue at Anfield.
This way, the Madrid has found the natural replacement for Dani Carvajal, who is injured after suffering a triple knee tear for which he has already said "bye" to the season. His arrival could open the exit door for Lucas Vázquez, whose contract ends at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold's arrival at Bernabéu would occur as a free agent –his contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, 2025–, since Anfield has decided not to part with the player in January.
However, Madrid will have to negotiate with Liverpool so that Arnold can play in the Club World Cup. Which debuts a new format and will be held in the United States between June 14th and July 13th, 2025.
FIFA doesn't object
FIFA has already announced that it will open a transfer window before this competition to allow the various participating clubs to strengthen their teams. However, this is only if the federations join the initiative. They'll have the final decision to open or not this window, which would be available from June 1st to 10th. Although it doesn't seem they will put obstacles to allow player transfers and for them to participate with their new team.
In Madrid's case, if the Spanish Federation validates this concession, the white team could make some transfers and, additionally, it also allows contracts already signed until June 30 to be extended by a few days.
This way, Alexander-Arnold could indeed play with Madrid in the Club World Cup. It would be in this tournament where the Englishman would debut with the merengue club.
