Alfredo Duro explodes over Villarreal-Barça in Miami, the reasons: 'What a coincidence'
The journalist doesn't believe in coincidences and believes that this opportunity for Barça to make money arises 'now that it's broke'
Alfredo Duro hasn't held his tongue. The El Chiringuito journalist has harshly criticized the match Villarreal and Barcelona will play in Miami. For him, the decision isn't innocent.
“What a coincidence that Barça is broke and this Miami movie comes up”, Duro began during the debate. “Let's remember that Barça is more broke than ever and this Miami thing comes up”, he insisted.
Cristina Cubero replied: “They're not the only ones who are broke, you know”. But the panelist didn't back down. “If it were Madrid, you'd surely be applauding this match —he said ironically—. Since Barça is broke, the rest of the clubs allow it to do anything. Now, of course, it's convenient for it to play in Miami or Siberia. Give me five million and I'll go wherever they ask me”.
Duro sees favoritism
For Duro, the key lies in the club's current financial situation. “Since Barça is broke, they come up with these inventions. The problem is that everyone looks the other way”, he pointed out.
Cubero tried to clarify that “Villarreal also wants to go, and they're not the only ones”. But the Madrid native replied again with irony. “Of course, there has to be a guest for the match to happen. Barça can't play alone”, he said with a serious expression.

“We're not fools”
The journalist emphasized that there's an obvious reason behind it. “We're not fools and we know the background. This isn't to promote LaLiga, it's about money. It's money that, right now, Barça needs more than anyone”, he added.
The Villarreal-Barça match in Miami has sparked an intense debate on social media and in studios. Some see it as an opportunity to expand the competition's brand. Others, like Duro, believe it's a move designed to benefit a specific club.
The match will be historic: it will be the first time an official LaLiga match is played outside Spain since in 2018 there was an attempt to take a Girona-Barça match to the United States, which was thwarted by opposition from the RFEF and several players.
Now, with the agreement already advanced, the clash between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami seems inevitable. But the criticism, especially from Madrid, will continue until the opening whistle.
