Ancelotti Surprises by Revealing Why Vallejo Didn't Play the Cup: It Was Better...

Ancelotti commented that Jesús Vallejo's absence was the player's own decision

Real Madrid secured a landslide victory at the Cartagonova stadium to advance to the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. The team won 0-5 against Deportiva Minera, a team from the Segunda Federación, in a game where the non-regulars delivered a high level of performance.

Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Güler, twice, and a highly acclaimed Luka Modric scored the goals. Additionally, Carlo Ancelotti gave the opportunity to Chema, Lorenzo, and Diego Aguado, three players from La Fábrica. Finally, the Italian also allowed Vinícius and Mbappé to play for half an hour.

The opportunity for non-regulars

Real Madrid's victory was clearly expected, as Deportiva Minera is still a team from the Segunda Federación. For that reason, Ancelotti chose first team players who are not as regular as Andriy Lunin, Diego and Lorenzo Aguado, or Endrick.

However, we didn't get to see Jesús Vallejo, a player who has accumulated 10 minutes throughout the season. The Aragonese defender, who might leave Madrid permanently in the winter transfer market, wasn't included in the team.

Carlo Ancelotti clears up all doubts

At the end, Ancelotti stated that Vallejo's possible decision to leave is "his own." He added that "for this match he had a slight discomfort and it was better not to take risks with him."

Ancelotti doesn't count on him, and even Raúl Asencio has surpassed him, getting opportunities in big matches like at Anfield against Liverpool. As we've already mentioned, Jesús Vallejo's season is summarized in a few minutes against Deportivo Alavés when the score was 3-0.

After transfer for Madrid in the summer of 2015 for 5 million euros, Vallejo has barely played 32 matches for Real Madrid, 22 of them as a starter. The Aragonese player was loaned to several clubs but couldn't seize the opportunities. Almost ten years later, the player is about to say farewell to the best club in the world with which he has won several trophies.
