Ancelotti, Very Upset: a Flu Leaves a Madrid Star Player out of the Supercopa
Despite his good form, Ancelotti loses a player to face Mallorca
Real Madrid faces the semifinals of the Spanish Supercopa against Mallorca this Thursday. The game, held in Saudi Arabia, will be the first in the fight to retain the title won a year ago. However, it won't be easy as the team arrives with several absences.
We already knew that neither Carvajal nor Militão would be available due to their long-term injuries. Alaba did make the team, but it's ruled out that he'll have minutes against Mallorca. The one who also won't be available is Luka Modric due to a viral infection.
The club itself has issued a medical report informing about the Croatian's absence. "Luka Modric is out for today's game against RCD Mallorca due to a viral infection" they stated. Although, as usual, they leave it "pending evolution."
That means that, although he won't play the Spanish Supercopa semifinals, he could recover soon. Right now, the goal is for him to be available for a potential final. It would be on Sunday against Barça, and by that day, he could be fully available.
Ancelotti suffers a significant loss although it didn't seem he would be a starter
Losing Modric for the match against Mallorca is a tough blow for Carlo Ancelotti. While he wasn't considering starting him, he was in great form for this match. He demonstrated it against Deportiva Minera in the Copa del Rey last Monday.
That day he did start in the line-up and led the team, moving between lines like Bellingham. Additionally, he capped off his good performance with a goal, which had him arriving motivated. He was a player who had many chances to take the field in the second half.
Now, Ancelotti will have to look for other alternatives, although it seems that if he looks to the bench, he will have them. Both Brahim and Arda Güler are expected to be substitutes against Mallorca. However, in the Copa, they also showed that they're ready to take on the responsibility if the coach considers it.
