Vinicius Case Filed Away, Real Madrid Regrets Prosecutor's News

The Prosecutor's Office reports that there are no hate crimes against Vinicius during one of the 2023 Clásicos

The Prosecutor's Office has requested to dismiss the case against two Barcelona fans for the racist insults toward Vinícius Jr. during the Clásico held in October 2023 at the Montjuïc stadium. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the comments do not constitute a hate crime or degrading treatment, leading to the request for the case's dismissal.

In a document accessed by 'EFE', the Barcelona Hate Crimes Prosecutor's Office concludes that the expressions of the accused could not be determined. Although it is acknowledged that the comments might have been offensive, it considers that they do not constitute a hate incitement crime. In fact, they state that they did not provoke a "call effect" among the audience nor led to the suspension of the match.

The Prosecutor's Office Reports No Hate Crimes Against the Brazilian

Despite the decision, the Prosecutor's Office has urged the investigating judge to refer the case to the Office for Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination. Meanwhile, the Professional Football League (LFP) had also requested to be able to exercise the accusation. For his part, the judge offered Vinícius the possibility to appear as an aggrieved party, which he accepted and did formally.

One of the two investigated decided to exercise his right not to testify before the investigating judge, while the other recognized himself in the images provided by the Mossos. However, he denied that his shouts were offensive. The aforementioned claimed that he had only exclaimed "mucho morro" to the referee in relation to a controversial play involving Vinicius.

Such Incidents Cannot Continue to Occur

The incidents were reported by Real Madrid, which also reported a series of insults uttered in the vicinity of the Metropolitano. Those disrespectful acts were before the match between Atlético and Inter, so the white club wasn't even playing there.

At that time, the white club spoke of "violent attacks" that had been repeatedly occurring. However, so far, the only convictions have fallen on fans in Palma de Mallorca and Valencia.

Nevertheless, the decision of the Prosecutor's Office seems insufficient. At Real Madrid, they do not agree at all and continue to insist that there must be much harsher punishments.
