Arne Slot confirms the open secret: Alexander-Arnold signs for Real Madrid

Liverpool's coach made some very striking statements in his recent press conference

Real Madrid is getting closer to officially announcing one of the most important changes planned for the next season. Carlo Ancelotti will leave the club, officially announced, at the end of the match against Real Sociedad this Saturday.  In his place, Xabi Alonso would arrive, who already has one more asset for the Club World Cup: the promising Spanish center-back Dean Huijsen.

The current AFC Bournemouth player is not the only footballer that the executives led by Florentino Pérez have pointed out as additions to Santiago Bernabéu locker room before that World Cup. The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold is also pending to solve the right-back dilemma and restore Lucas Vázquez's departure for the 25/26 campaign.

The operation has not yet been made official despite the club's leadership having been working for several months on securing the future of Liverpool's English right-back. Asked about this issue,  Arne Slot replied with some humor to the '66' red decision to leave the Merseyside club when this season ends.

The Dutch coach was candid in the pre-match press conference before the last Premier League game against Crystal Palace about the situation Alexander-Arnold is in now. "He's going to leave anyway... so it could be the first gift I can give to Xabi Alonso", the Liverpool coach candidly jokes.

He also didn't miss the opportunity to point out the '66' for his performance this season: "I wasn't entirely happy with all the minutes he has been training". It's not the only negative comment Slot himself has made against Alexander-Arnold in that press conference.

"In my opinion, there were certain moments when he could have done more, to put it mildly. I've already told him he's a better defender than people think, but he doesn't show it all the time", the coach from the Netherlands states. Be that as it may, Trent Alexander-Arnold would be more than ready to swap Anfield for Santiago Bernabéu.

The big question in that signing, unofficially confirmed by Arne Slot in the pre-match press conference against Crystal Palace, is in the timing of the transfer. Real Madrid would want to have the English defender to play in the Club World Cup, a desire that would have an originally estimated cost of 2.2 million euros. This amount would include a symbolic transfer for the footballer and the last salary of the English right-back as a Liverpool player.

Given the amount demanded by the bosses based in Merseyside, it doesn't seem that the club's leadership has reservations about making this outlay. The absence of an official statement, however, keeps the tension at maximum levels due to the possibility of a last-minute fiasco... already ruled out thanks to Arne Slot's words.
