Atlético will sign a Real Madrid youth player this summer no matter what: 2 candidates

Miguel Gutiérrez and Álvaro Carreras are Simeone's two requests to strengthen the left-back position at Metropolitano

Strengthening the left-back position is an absolute priority for Atlético de Madrid for the upcoming season.

Javi Galán hasn't disappointed, but at the Metropolitano, they are looking for a player with more potential. The intention is clear: to sign a young, talented, and dynamic left-back.

Carreras shines in Portugal

One of the main targets is Álvaro Carreras. The Galician, 22 years old, plays for Benfica. His season is being excellent.

Atlético already suffered against him in the Champions League, in the thrashing at Da Luz. Carreras is valued at €28 million, although his release clause rises to €50 million. The Portuguese club won't hinder his departure.

However, the big problem is the competition. Real Madrid also wants him. Carreras was trained at Valdebebas and is now an under-21 international.

Real Madrid is willing to offer more than €30 million. Therefore, Atlético won't have it easy.

Miguel Gutiérrez, a solid alternative with Real Madrid roots

The other name that appeals is Miguel Gutiérrez. The current Girona player also came through Madrid's youth academy. Unlike Carreras, he made his debut with the first team.

In 2022, he was sold to Girona for €4 million. Now his value exceeds €25 million. Madrid kept a buy-back option for €8 million. But they have no intention of exercising it.

Moreover, if Miguel leaves Girona, 50% of his sale will go to Bernabéu's coffers. That is another obstacle for Atlético.

Miguel has a contract until 2027, and his release clause is €35 million. But Girona would let him go for about €20 million. The problem, again, is the competition. Juventus and Milan have already inquired about him.

Despite everything, the player would be delighted to return to Madrid. Wearing the red and white jersey poses no conflict for him.

The profile Simeone wants: Spanish, young, and with a future

At Atlético, they are clear. The left-back position will be strengthened no matter what. The desired profile is specific: a Spanish player, young, proven in the top division, and with room for improvement.

Carreras and Miguel Gutiérrez meet all the requirements. The final decision will be made this summer.
