Bein Sports France's Blow to Spanish VAR after Disallowing 3 Goals to Real Madrid

Real Madrid scored four goals, however, Quintero González also disallowed three others

Real Madrid won 4-1 against UD Las Palmas, with a standout double from Mbappé and goals from Brahim Díaz and Rodrygo. However, the score could've been even wider, as the white team had several clear chances that were disallowed by VAR.

This was all due to Quintero González, the referee of the game, annulling what would've been Kylian Mbappé's third goal. Figueroa Vázquez, from VAR, alerted his colleague about a possible offside by the French forward.

Additionally, Real Madrid also saw Fede Valverde's fifth goal disallowed. The Uruguayan, who beat Jasper Cillessen with a great shot, couldn't celebrate his goal due to a previous offside by Lucas Vázquez.

Jude Bellingham also could've scored his in the previous minutes, but VAR intervened as well.

What happened with VAR in Kylian Mbappé's goal?

The reality is that Kylian Mbappé's position is quite controversial. It's very tight and, initially, he seems to be in line, which would leave him onside. However, in these types of plays, the frame selected by VAR is crucial and often decisive for the final decision.

In fact, there's some discontent within Real Madrid regarding how VAR is being used in LaLiga. It's not the first time decisions like this have caused concern among the club's top officials, who have expressed their dissatisfaction with the application of this tool.

Criticism arrives from abroad

It seems that outside Spain, there are also strong criticisms of the semi-automatic offside system we have in LaLiga.

Commentators from "Bein Sports France", the channel that was broadcasting the match live, were quite upset with the technology.

"We don't know why they annul the goals, they don't even show the correct images", they commented during the Real Madrid match.

Despite everything, the white team managed to win by a landslide against UD Las Palmas. However, as we've already mentioned, the system leaves quite a few doubts in the merengue team. They believe these decisions, in tighter moments, can make a big difference.
