Benfica gives in and Real Madrid signs Carreras, official in the next few hours

The deal is already closed and only the official announcement is pending, which may be made soon

In recent days, Real Madrid had rushed to finalize Álvaro Carreras's signing as soon as possible. Los Blancos had chosen him as a reinforcement for the left-back position already for the Club World Cup. However, Benfica was reluctant and clung to the clause for after that event.

Negotiations seemed to have stalled, with Real Madrid trying to lower the price. In the end, it won't be possible and everything indicates that Los Blancos will pay the €50 million ($50 million) release clause. However, Benfica has given in on an aspect they considered essential.

According to the latest reports, Álvaro Carreras will become a new Real Madrid player in the next few hours. The agreement between clubs is already closed and he will be with Los Blancos at the Club World Cup. They get their way in this regard for the tournament this summer.

This is great news for Xabi Alonso, who had insisted on having him as soon as possible. He knows that the left-back position is a very weakened area in which, for now, he doesn't have Mendy. He is injured, but Carreras and Fran García ensure rotation in the mentioned position.

Everyone's intention was for Álvaro Carreras's signing to have been finalized last week. However, Benfica wanted to put maximum pressure regarding the price and the Club World Cup. But the player's stance has solved everything for his move to Real Madrid.

Carreras made it clear to Benfica that he wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to sign for the Merengue side. He had already been in the youth academy and it was the perfect chance to succeed in the first team. That's why he pushed for them to accept Real Madrid's offer as soon as possible.

This has allowed the agreement to be closed and for him to be at the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso's orders. Now he will have a few days to get to know and train with his new teammates. His signing is expected to be made official in the next few hours.
