Benzema's Response About Real Madrid - Atlético in the Champions: 'who...?'

Al-Ittihad's '9' was recently asked about his former team's clash in the top continental competition.

Last Friday's UEFA draw in Nyon brought us a Real Madrid-Atlético in the Champions League round of 16. A matchup in which, in Europe, there's no contest, as the Whites have always emerged victorious in all the ties played (3), and moreover, the Madridists still remember the finals of 2014 and 2016.

"It'll be difficult, as it always is to play against Atlético. It's going to be a beautiful, entertaining, balanced, and evenly matched tie. The last two encounters were draws, which means the quality of both teams is similar," said Carlo Ancelotti this Saturday when asked about the pairing.

Karim Benzema is another who has been asked to comment on the upcoming duel Madrid will have in Europe. The former Madridist, who currently plays for Saudi Al-Ittihad, didn't hesitate when a journalist asked him to "get wet."

"Madrid or Atleti in the Champions round of 16," Benzema hears, and he spontaneously blurts out the first thing that comes to mind: "What do you think?" It's then that the journalist mentions Madrid, and "El Gato" laughs and leaves the mixed zone after his team defeated Al-Hilal on Saturday. Benzema scored a goal and now has 16 goals in the Arab Super League, the same as Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Data, Overwhelming

Madrid will play a European Cup tie against Atlético after seven years since the last one. It will be the fourth, with previous precedents in the 1958/1959 (semifinals), 2014/2015 (quarterfinals), and 2016/2017 (semifinals) seasons. In all of these, it was Madrid that advanced to the next round.

Atlético, meanwhile, has only beaten Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup final. The red-and-white team is already heating up the tie and has even omitted Madrid's crest in the information sent to its members regarding ticket acquisition. A real ordeal when not even the first leg has been played, and it has been a long-standing issue, having attacked the Whites for their justified complaints about refereeing.
