Better than Rodri and Vitinha: Modric's successor had a price tag of €50M

His signing slipped away, but he shows the quality he has after his signing

Real Madrid has seen Kroos, who retired, and Modric leave in the last two years. The merengue midfield lost two players with great creative ability. It won't be easy to find someone to fill that role, which seems crucial at the club.

There had been speculation about Rodri, an old desire of Florentino who right now is out of reach after renewing with City.  Also about Vitinha, who has had a great season with Portugal and PSG. But the Portuguese also decided to extend his contract with the Parisian club.

That left the merengues with few options, and one of them has slipped away. This is Tijjani Reijnders, who finally signed for Manchester City for €50 million. That's despite the fact that Real Madrid had been closely following his performance at Milan.

His debut in the Premier League has proven that he was Modric's successor. He provided an assist, scored a stunning goal, and above all did whatever he wanted in the citizens' midfield. He recovered the ball, led his team, and linked up with his teammates in a superb performance by the Dutchman.

Real Madrid keeps looking at the market for a midfielder

Since his arrival at Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso has insisted on signing a creative midfielder. He wanted to have someone with good ball control and suggested signing Zubimendi. Although the merengues never entered the race for the former Real Sociedad player.

Even though he went to Arsenal, Real Madrid keeps looking at the market for solutions. Angelo Stiller, Wharton, several names have been mentioned to fill that position. Although unless there's a last-minute surprise, it doesn't seem like a signing will happen.

It's a matter that's been put off until next summer, in case they still need it. Xabi Alonso has chosen to give Güler more responsibility in playmaking. Helped by Trent or Huijsen, it seems that for now this has been his great success.
