Cañizares's Rant Against Luis de la Fuente by Raúl Asencio: Harsh Words

Santiago Cañizares hasn't held back. The former goalkeeper harshly criticized Luis de la Fuente for his management of Raúl Asencio in the National Team.

The debate erupted after the list for the Nations League matches. Asencio was drafted, but then was sidelined in the coach's decisions. This did not sit well with Cañizares.

"I Don't Understand It"

The former Madrid player expressed his anger on Cadena COPE. "If this guy is on the list initially... I mean, this guy doesn't come, Íñigo is out and Huijsen comes in. Now he's ahead of Asencio, who was indeed there from the beginning," he stated on Tiempo de Juego.

His criticism highlights the lack of consistency in the coach's decisions.

The Asencio Case

Raúl Asencio has shown a great level this season. His draft was a recognition of his performance. However, in the first match against the Netherlands (2-2) he was left out of the list.

The final blow came when Pau Cubarsí was injured in the 41st minute. His replacement was Dean Huijsen, who was added to the list at the last moment after Íñigo Martínez's withdrawal.

Gila, the Emergency Solution

For the next match, De la Fuente reacted by calling up Mario Gila. The former Madrid player, now at Lazio, was urgently called to strengthen the defense.

This raised more doubts about the coach's criteria. Asencio seemed to be ahead in the initial plans, but ended up sidelined.

However, Le Normand received a yellow card and was suspended, missing the return match. Therefore, Asencio is 'forced' to play after Cubarsí's injury and Robin's suspension. 

The former goalkeeper did not hide his indignation. "There are things I don't understand," he insisted on COPE. His message makes it clear that De la Fuente's management doesn't convince everyone.

Asencio's situation generates debate. Real Madrid closely follows his development, while his role in the National Team remains uncertain.
