Confirmed: Real Madrid call Zubimendi and he will be the blockbuster signing for the midfield

Move by Los Blancos for Zubimendi, they have already called the player to test the waters

Real Madrid has been looking for a reinforcement for the midfield for quite a few months. They are aware that they have struggled in playmaking throughout the last season. The retirement of Kroos left a void that they've been unable to fill with anyone.

Zubimendi seemed like a good option, but in recent days his steps had been heading toward Arsenal. However, there's still no final agreement and Real Madrid has entered the picture. According to José Félix Díaz, they've asked the player's camp about the agreement with the Gunners.

They know that nothing is final yet and they don't rule out a last move to secure his services. In fact, now they'd have to ask Real Sociedad to see their intentions. If they demand his release clause or accept that a loan of a player could lower the cost of the operation.

Zubimendi himself will also have to state where he'd prefer to play next season. Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, or Arsenal, it seems that it'll be one of those three teams. The Merengues currently have many opportunities to secure his services.

Xabi Alonso returns to the scene to secure his signing

Under normal conditions, everything would point to a signing for Arsenal, as happened with Mikel Merino. However, the Xabi Alonso factor and his arrival at Real Madrid must be taken into account. They know each other, they coincided in the Donostiarra reserve team, and they keep a good relationship.

That could be decisive in convincing him to accept the Merengue offer they'd send him. He knows that he's going to have a spot on the team, since he trusts Xabi Alonso and his plans. It's also a step forward to compete for all the titles in his career.

Zubimendi's signing for Real Madrid has been reactivated, although it's moving more slowly. His arrival won't happen until after the Club World Cup, so there's no rush. Now they prefer to let the player rest and make a final decision about his future.
