Cucurella speaks out about Nico's rejection of Barça, K.O. to Gerard Romero: for me...
The full-back understands his national teammate's decision and states that he doesn't trust anyone regarding the non-registration
Marc Cucurella has stood up for Nico Williams amid a wave of criticism over his refusal to sign for Barça. In an interview with Gerard Romero, the Barça youth academy graduate and current Chelsea player strongly denied the version circulating in some sectors of Barcelona fans: "For me, it wasn't that," he replied when Romero suggested that the Athletic player chose "the money" over sporting growth.

Key World Cup season
Cucurella made his view clear: "I think he got scared that they wouldn't register him." This honest opinion surprised Romero himself, who reacted with a touch of irony: "Is that the excuse?" But the full-back didn't back down and went further: "What do you do if they can't register you? I don't trust anyone."
The journalist tried to take the conversation to a personal level, asking Cucurella what he would do in a similar situation. "If Barça goes to Chelsea and says they're paying €65 million for 'Cucu'... would you come or not?" he asked. The answer was once again forceful: "I don't know... If they can't register you, what do you do?"
Romero didn't give up. He brought up the case of Dani Olmo and the club's promises that they will be able to register him. "We suffer, but they're assuring you that they'll do it," he insisted. Cucurella, without hesitation, replied while touching his curls: "Today, I don't trust anyone." The phrase drew applause from viewers following the live interview.
Barça in the spotlight due to uncertainty
Cucurella's words have resonated. Not only because of his defense of Nico Williams, but because they highlight the major concern many footballers have about Barça's situation: the real possibility of not being registered in time.
Nico, who was key in the Euros, renewed with Athletic this summer and hasn't wanted to get into controversies. But the debate is still alive. Now, with the testimony of someone who knows the club well, the idea is reinforced that his "no" to Barça wasn't a rejection of the club but a decision based on caution ahead of a World Cup year.
